About Course

Are you a Year 10 Science student? Now is the perfect time to get prepared and make sure you are ready for the increased demands of GCSE Science.

Year 10 is an important year. Science becomes more detailed and challenging, and you will be expected to understand concepts, apply your knowledge, interpret data, carry out calculations, and answer GCSE-style questions with confidence.

Our Year 10 Science Course has been specially designed to help students transition smoothly into the new school year by refreshing essential knowledge from Years 7–9 and introducing the skills needed to succeed at GCSE.

Course Content

Cell Structure and Microscopy
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to identify the main structures found in animal and plant cells, explain the functions of these structures, compare eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells, understand how specialised cells are adapted to their functions, use and rearrange the microscope magnification equation, calculate the size of cells and other microscopic structures and understand the difference between light microscopes and electron microscopes.

Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table.
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to describe the structure of an atom, identify protons, neutrons and electrons, state the relative charge and mass of each subatomic particle, understand atomic number and mass number, calculate the number of subatomic particles in an atom, explain what isotopes are, understand how electrons are arranged in shells, explain how the Periodic Table is organised, describe how the position of an element relates to its electronic structure.

Energy Stores and Energy Transfers
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to explain what an energy store is, identify the different energy stores required at GCSE, describe how energy is transferred between stores, understand the difference between energy stores and energy transfer pathways, apply the conservation of energy principle, calculate changes in gravitational potential energy, calculate changes in kinetic energy, understand elastic potential energy, explain useful and wasted energy and calculate energy efficiency.
