Course Content

Homeostasis
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to define homeostasis, explain why homeostasis is important, understand the idea of a stable internal environment, describe the roles of receptors, coordination centres and effectors, explain negative feedback, describe how the body regulates temperature, explain how blood glucose concentration is controlled, understand the basic role of insulin and glucagon, describe how the body regulates water levels and apply these ideas to GCSE exam questions.

Metals and Reactivity
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to explain what we mean by the reactivity of a metal, describe the reactivity series of metals, explain how metals react with water and acids, use observations from experiments to compare the reactivity of metals, explain displacement reactions, understand how the reactivity series helps us predict reactions, explain the importance of extraction of metals, understand the difference between oxidation and reduction in terms of oxygen and electrons and apply your knowledge to GCSE exam questions.
